Dogwood Canyon - Trail Stars

An epic adventure through icy water crossings and treacherous hills made this year’s Dogwood Canyon Trail Runs nothing less than spectacular. Congratulations to all of the athletes who participated in this year’s event. Springfield FitLife salutes the following men and women who took home top honors in their respective categories. Steve Mantell - 1st Overall Male

Dogwood Canyon 15K, 50K & The North Face 15K/50K Challenge

Steve Mantell placed first overall male in the 15K and The North Face 15K/50K Challenge. The 26 year-old engineer from Overland Park, Kansas finished the 15K in a blazing 1 hour, four minutes and eleven seconds. Steve’s total time for the 50K was a new course record at three hours, thirty five minutes and twenty nine seconds. This was Steve’s first time participating in the Dogwood Canyon Trail Runs and says his favorite things about this event “was meeting cool people, being in nature, and spending time out on the trails.”

Sarah Waterman - 1st Overall Female

Dogwood Canyon 15K, 25K & The North Face 15K/25K Challenge

Sarah Waterman (24) is a Registered Dietitian from Springfield, Missouri. Sarah took first overall female in the 15K, 25K and The North Face 15K/25K Challenge. Her 15K time was one hour, twenty minutes and forty two seconds. She finished the 25K in two hours, eighteen minutes and twenty seconds. Sarah competed in the 15K at Dogwood last year and says “meeting other runners on the trails that are supportive and encouraging” is one of her favorite parts of the Dogwood experience. Sarah also mentioned that she “really appreciates the aid station volunteers who generously donate their time to help runners, especially during such cold weather.”

Amy Robbins - 1st Overall Female - Dogwood Canyon 50K

Amy Robbins (47) is a physical therapist from Springfield, Missouri. Amy took first overall female in the Dogwood Canyon 50K. She completed the 50K in four hours, forty minutes and fifty five seconds. This is Amy’s fourth time competing in the 50K and her third time winning first overall female in this event. Robbins says one of her favorite things about Dogwood is “when the 50K runners come back by the 25K runners to finish the second half and everyone is cheering each other on.”

Christy Swearingen - 1st Overall Female - The North Face 15K/50K Challenge

Christy Swearingen (39) from Lee’s Summit, Missouri is a software development manager and first overall female award recipient of the The North Face 15K/50K Challenge. Christy finished the 15K in one hour, thirty minutes and nine seconds. Her time for the 50K was five hours, eight minutes and twenty one seconds. Christy loves the Dogwood trails and has run here the past four years. She tells us that “the people and the camaraderie of the runners” are what keeps her coming back. “The 15K/50K really let me take in the whole experience.”

Jonathan Dorris - 1st Overall Male - The North Face 15K/25K Challenge

Jonathan Dorris (37) is retired from the United States Army and also owns Natural State Running in Batesville, Arkansas. He placed first overall male in The North Face 15K/25K Challenge. Jonathan placed second overall male last year and accomplished his mission of returning this year to take first overall male with a 15K time of one hour, fourteen minutes and twenty one seconds, and a time of two hours, twenty minutes and twenty eight seconds in the 25K. “Running the trails with my team, the White River Road Runners, seeing their success, and the after-party camaraderie” are what Jonathan says he enjoyed most about Dogwood this year. Jonathan and his wife Jennifer are both Ultra Runners.

Mike Krsnak (photo not available) 1st Overall Male - Dogwood Canyon 25K

Mike Krsnak from Rapid City, South Dakota completed the Dogwood Canyon 25K in one hour, fifty one minutes and ten seconds.
