Open for Business: Lean Kitchen Company
Lean Kitchen Company - Springfield MO

Life is hectic! Between work, kids, keeping the house together, and the gym, it is hard to find time for anything, much less prepare your meals for the week. That’s where Lean Kitchen Company can help. LKC offers individual, prepared meals that are healthy and delicious.

How does it work?

Located at 1316 E. Battlefield (the corner of Freemont and Battlefield), LKC is open Monday – Saturday (soon to be open on Sundays!) to help with your meal planning needs. Customers can come into the store to buy their meals for the week or just for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. LKC has many meal options available, and a variety of choices when it comes to meal plans. All of the meals are prepared fresh and can meet a variety of nutritional needs. Our meals can be purchased individually or as part of one of our meal plans. There is also the option to order online by Friday at 10 PM for pickup or delivery Monday morning after 10 AM.

How did LKC get started?

LKC was started by two entrepreneurs in 2016 out of St. Joseph, MO. In 2018, they expanded into franchising. In 2019, Natalie and Jon Hardin purchased a franchise territory throughout MO that included Columbia, Kirksville, and Springfield. Natalie and Jon have had many business opportunities throughout their careers with close ties to Columbia and Springfield. Jon graduated from Missouri State with a degree in Mass Communications and was a member of Phi Delta Theta. Natalie graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with degrees in Computer Science and Marketing. Throughout their careers, they have had different opportunities to work in Marketing, IT, and Operations Management. As they looked to their future, they started exploring franchise opportunities and came upon Lean Kitchen Co. After trying the delicious food and speaking with the Corporate owners, they were sold and, on their way, to establishing their kitchen and first store. In June 2020, they opened their first store in Columbia, MO, where all meals are prepared twice a week. Their second store in Kirksville, MO opened in October 2020. They then opened their third store in Springfield, MO in April 2021. Opening three Lean Kitchens during a pandemic was not necessarily part of their plan, but it all worked out in the end. Opening during a pandemic presented several challenges: delayed buildout times, responding to and following various city ordinances, difficulty in hiring, and ineligibility for any PPP funding. However, Natalie and Jon quickly learned that customers were tired of cooking at home, had gained the “Covid-15” and were seeking healthy meal options that were convenient and affordable – Lean Kitchen was exactly what customers wanted! Natalie and Jon are thrilled to be part of the Lean Kitchen family and excited to join the Springfield community.

What makes Lean Kitchen Co Springfield unique?

Natalie says “Lean Kitchen Co Springfield saves our customer’s time and money, by offering already prepared meals that are ready to eat and heat. There is no longer a need to plan your meals, go to the grocery store, prepare, and cook your food.”

“We make it convenient and affordable, while at the same time, it is healthy and delicious! Our team is ready to talk with all customers about their health goals and support them in reaching those goals” added Jon.

LKC offers lunch and dinner options along with breakfast and snack options. During a single visit, customers can select from one of the 20-25 meal choices available. The choices include a variety of proteins, including chicken, turkey, steak, and even a vegetarian option. Popular lunch and dinner choices include the Chicken Street Tacos, Southwest Steak Bowl, and Backyard Burger and Carrot Fries (vegetarian). Breakfast and snack options include Reese’s Protein Donuts, Breakfast Bowl, and Muscle Bites. All meals are labeled with heating instructions, all ingredients, and list out the nutritional values. All meals can even be found on the MyFitnessPal app which helps customers stay on track by tracking their food.

Jon said “We have found many customers think healthy food is bland and boring. Not our meals! Our Customers say our meals are full of flavor compared to other competitors in the market.”

While customers can come into the store and pick up meals anytime during store hours, we do offer an online option for ordering meals in advance. When ordering online, customers can choose to pick up in-store or have their meals delivered directly to their work or home on Monday mornings. All customers must do is remember to order by 10 PM on Fridays. Customers have the option to place a one-time order or set up a weekly recurring order. Ordering in advance prepares our customers for their week, saves them time and money, and helps them reach their nutritional goals. Staying on track has never been easier.
