Look Better, Feel Better, at Bentley Skincare & Wellness

Clementine Bentley, owner of Bentley Skincare & Wellness, grew up in Kansas City and obtained her Biology degree at UMKC and worked as an EMT, prior to her undergraduate studies. She met her husband, Anthony Bentley, while he was in medical school at UHS-COM, and moved to Virginia while he completed his general surgery internship at the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth. While Dr. Bentley was completing his residency in Otolaryngology and Facial Plastics at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, Clementine worked as a research assistant at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences under a grant from the Henry M Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine. She also worked as a veterinary technician at numerous veterinary hospitals. After living in North Chicago during her husband’s Navy assignment, they relocated to Springfield, MO where they have lived for the past 13 years.

While attending several of her husband’s Facial Plastic Surgery conferences, Clementine decided to pursue a career in esthetics and attended esthetician school in Springfield. She started Bentley Skincare & Wellness and partnered with Dr. Brendon Delport to create Springfield’s premier medical spa. She has a passion for lifelong learning and has numerous certifications in the field of esthetics. She has also completed a master’s degree in Integrative Education and is currently working with movie producer E.B. Hughes, heading the makeup and special effects department.

Cosmeceuticals

The original focus of Bentley Skincare & Wellness is on the health and beauty of the skin. We start with the knowledge that skincare is a lifestyle and we need to maintain proper skin health and hygiene as we correct damage caused by sun exposure, environmental toxins, and the effects of aging. Our estheticians are experts in skincare and can help create a skincare regimen to address specific concerns and to help maintain a healthy appearance for life. Many skin conditions can be managed by combining medical grade cosmeceuticals in the proper way. They also allow the skin to recover after restorative treatments to effect more dramatic and lasting results. A simple quiz found on our website under “Skin Type Solutions” on our online store can get the process started.

Facials and Chemical Peels

After priming the skin, numerous restorative treatments can be utilized to regenerate the healthy glow seen in youth. For those wanting a conservative approach, we offer corrective facials. Medical grade skincare products are applied to the skin in the proper combination during a relaxing facial massage. Steam helps to open the pores and allow extraction of dirt and oils, and allows products to penetrate deep into the skin where they can affect irregular skin pigmentation, laxity, wrinkles, and acne. The use of powered hydra-dermabrasion in a hydra-facial treatment can simultaneously cleanse the skin and remove old skin cells while adding bioactive supplements. Chemical peels can be added to further exfoliate the skin and induce new skin production.

IPL and Lasers

If a more aggressive approach is warranted, the use of IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) can be used to destroy unwanted dark spots and small blood vessels in the skin, improving skin complexion. Because the overlying skin remains intact, there is very little downtime experienced. However, to induce collagen production and improve wrinkles, an ablative laser, such as CO2 or Erbium can be used to remove the old, damaged skin so that it can be replaced by fresh, youthful skin. If spider veins are a problem, our Nd YAG laser can help target and destroy them. Our laser technicians are trained and certified on all our devices, and our physician is a fellow of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.

Microneedling

Another effective approach to skin restoration is to create controlled injuries with fine needles which elicit a robust healing response, causing skin turnover and collagen production. PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) can be applied to add growth factors into the deeper layers of the skin. Radiofrequency micro-needling adds a component of heat to the needles producing a more intense healing response. Our staff can help to determine the optimal treatment for your skin.

Hair Removal

If unwanted hair is a problem, we can help. Waxing can temporarily remove the hairs, which usually come back much finer, but require periodic treatment for maintenance. For permanent hair reduction we have several lasers which target the hair follicle and destroy it. Because only the hairs in the growth phase can be permanently removed, we generally recommend six treatments for optimal hair reduction. Packages include several free touch-up sessions.

Tattoo Removal

If you’re regretting a tattoo, or it’s just becoming faded and distorted with time, we have lasers designed to break up the pigment so your body and eliminate it. Many people are deterred by the discomfort of tattoo removal, so we can use local anesthetics to make it painless. Using an optical clearing agent (PFD) tattoos can be treated multiple times in a single session, reducing the time needed to fade the tattoo.

Botox

As we age our skin thins and we lose subcutaneous fat allowing the activity of our muscles of facial expression to produce dynamic wrinkles, such as “crow’s feet”, forehead wrinkles, and “frown lines”. By relaxing these muscles with botulinum toxin the wrinkles seem to disappear. Repeated treatments have been shown to reduce the signs of aging and improve the health of the skin. There are numerous brands of botulinum toxin on the market, all with different characteristics. Because of variations in their effects, we offer several different botulinum toxins depending on your needs. Dr. Delport is an expert at applying botulinum toxins in a safe, effective manner to produce optimal cosmetic results.

Dermal Fillers

Aging naturally results in changes in the facial skeleton causing a relative loss of volume in the overlying fat pads, along with a progressive loss of density in the subcutaneous fat just below the skin. This leads to a “deflated” appearance to the face and creates some stigmata of aging, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines. The normally full upper face loses volume and the thinner lower face appears to widen. As tissues descend we notice a hollowing around the eyes and nose. Our lips become thin and long erasing our youthful appearance. The correct placement of soft tissue fillers can restore volume to depleted areas of the face giving a rejuvenated appearance. Hyaluronic Acid fillers have become popular due to their ability to restore volume and the ability to reverse the results, if needed. There are numerous fillers available, all with different characteristics. Some fillers are indicated for restoring volume in the cheeks, while others work well in the lips. “Biostimulator” fillers can also be used in certain areas of the face to give a more long-lasting effect. Dr. Delport understands the characteristics of each filler and, as a surgeon, has the understanding of facial anatomy for proper placement, avoiding the dreaded “ducky” appearance to the lips and “overfilled” appearance to the cheeks. He has trained numerous physicians and practitioners in the proper use of soft tissue fillers to optimize cosmetic results and avoid complications.

Surgery

When soft tissue fillers are not enough, it may be time to consider surgical facial restoration procedures. Although there is a relative loss of volume in the face with age the real problem seems to be that the facial tissues expand over time allowing the volume to descend. Adding volume helps camouflage these changes, but eventually the tissues need to be resuspended. Around the eyes the upper eyelids can start to droop, but can be corrected with a blepharoplasty, or “eyelid lift”.  In the lower eyelids we can see descent of the soft tissues leading to a “hollow” appearance to the eye and protrusion of fat behind the eyelid. Dr. Delport is the only fellowship-trained oculoplastic surgeon in the area, specially trained in facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.

Wellness is the Key

At Bentley Skincare & Wellness we take a holistic approach to our clients’ care. Although most people want to look “younger”, we all know young people that don’t look healthy. The reality is that due to changes in the facial skeleton it’s impossible to make a 60-year-old look like a 20- year-old, but we can restore the vitality of youth. Skin health is a reflection of whole-body health. We can turn back the clock with lasers, Botox, fillers, and surgery but to really optimize the results we need to optimize skin health.

Bioidentical Hormone Optimization

As we age there is a decline in our levels of testosterone, estrogen, and growth hormone, as well as imbalances in other hormones, such as thyroid hormone and cortisol. Testosterone improves cardiac health, libido, resting metabolism, mood, fatigue, and sleep. Estrogen is vital to skin health, brain function and memory, bone health, and hair, to mention a few of the benefits. These hormones can be brought back to their optimal levels with small pellets inserted into the subcutaneous fat. Unlike injectable or oral supplements, BioTE pellets are chemically identical to the hormones we naturally make. The hormones are slowly released over several months in levels which correspond to our cardiac output, physiologically similar to the way our own bodies release hormones. This gives a steady, reliable level of hormones, optimal for our health. It starts with a simple blood test and consultation with our physician.

Weight Management

Fat is an endocrine organ responsible for the production of numerous vital chemicals within our bodies. We have abundant, dense fat as children, but as we age we lose fat cells and the remaining cells become larger as they are required to hold more fatty oils. This results in a lack of oxygen at the center of the cells eliciting an inflammatory response. The resulting inflammation is the basis for numerous diseases, including type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, sleep apnea, hypertension, heart attack, stroke, gout, and numerous cancers, to name a few. The World Health Organization currently recognizes 35 diseases associated with obesity, which has become the greatest health crisis in America.

We are very fortunate to have partnered with Kim Chizevsky, 4-time Ms. Olympia, and Health and Wellness Coach. Kim and her husband, Chad Nicholls, have trained numerous elite athletes and are able to create dramatic changes in body morphology with diet and exercise programs, specifically tailored to our clients’ needs. She understands why diets fail and creates custom roadmaps for lifelong lifestyle changes.

Dr. Delport can also offer weight-loss medications to “unstick” your metabolism and accelerate the weight-loss process. Newer weight loss medications have shown dramatic results. Call to arrange a consultation and start on the path to a happier, healthier self.
